Rimmel Clear Complexion Cover Stick – Sand

Rimmel-clear-complexion-coverstickAs you may have read in my other Rimmel Coverstick review, I am a big fan of Rimmel makeup and have been using their Coversticks for as long as I can remember. When I saw that they had bought out a Coverstick that can help keep your complexion clear I was very keen to try it, so I paid £2.99 for one from Superdrug instead of buying their regular concealer that is the same price. Rimmel claims that this concealer “conceals blemishes and helps prevent skin breakouts thanks to PureSkin TM complex”.

This concealer comes in three different shades, Ivory, Natural Beige and Sand, meaning that they do not cater for people with darker skin tones. There weren’t any testers available when I purchased it, but I presumed that I would be the same colour in this as I am in their normal concealer, Sand. This was my first mistake, when I put it on it was very orange and really stood out. The Ivory in the regular concealer is far too light for me, however in this concealer it might have been a better match, although I do not think that my skin tone could be classed as Ivory at all. My skin can often be prone to dryness and even though I had moisturised, trying to put this on my skin was quite rough and it felt really dry and nasty, not moisturising at all like the regular cover stick. It was easier to apply this with a concealer brush, however it still didn’t go on very nicely. The overall coverage it gave to my dark circles and blemishes was ok, not amazing but not bad either, personally I felt the original cover stick gave a better coverage. This coverstick also smelt quite a bit, it wasn’t a particularly unpleasant smell, but a smell that you would attribute to skin care products designed to give a clear complexion.

I would not recommend this coverstick for anyone with dry skin as it really doesn’t go on very easily or look nice; however I can see how it would be good for people with oily skin as it has a drying effect. I didn’t really notice a reduction in blemishes on my skin whilst using it, but as stated before maybe it would work better on people who are prone to oily skin and have blemish problems related to that. I used this concealer every day for a month and still had over half left when I discontinued using it due to not liking the results it gave.

Pros: Lasts a long time, gives ok coverage and could work really well for people with oily skin.

Cons: Does not cater for darker skin tones, doesn’t work well on dry skin and it smells a bit.

  1. I would have to say I totally disagree. This is the only concealer that I have found that has great coverage, completely covers any blemishes or dark circles and actually helps with my complexion. I have used this concealer for nearly 2 years now and would never go back, the packaging is different to the picture above now and the top 3/4 is white.

The concealer goes on really well and feels easy to blend too. You can even touch up any areas over a translucent powder easily when out.

If I have a bit of dry skin in the winter months it does tend to be harder to cover but then I doubt any concealer would do a fantastic job, dry skin is dry skin, I find just exfoliating the area and whacking on a heavy moisturiser before applying the concealer works wonders.

We’re all different so something that works for me isn’t always going to be best for someone else sadly.

    10/10 from me though :)

  2. Hey Megan! Thanks very much for commenting, it’s nice to have other people’s points of view and opinions! :)

  3. I have to say I ran out of it yesterday so went to go and buy some more and to my pure shock nowhere is selling it anymore…ARGHHHH! if anyone knows where there are some PLEASE LET ME KNOW lol, I feel like i’ve lost a friend now, so I bought 3 other concealers to try and they all have horrendous coverage! I’m in such a dilemma :O)

  4. I totally agree with Megan! I purely use this cover stick to help hide the dark circles under my eyes and have used it for years! I have realised recently that I can no longer buy this product anywhere! Please please tell me it hasn’t been discontinued……it’s my lifesaver!

  5. i need this!!!has it been discontinued??i got told in boots it had but there must be some somewhere help!!

  6. I went on the Rimmel website and the stick doesnt exist anymore!!!!!!!! This is my main most useful vital makeup. I’ve used it since I was 16 and 10 years later I am lost without it. This is worse than when CoverGirl stopped existing. Why would they stop selling the only item I buy from Rimmel. (appart from the odd nail varnish) Their other stuff sucks.

  7. Good news…You can still get this consealer at semichem.co.uk for £3.91, didnt find it suited my dry skin, but good news for those of you who love it!

  8. Bad news ladies, I can not find the coverstick on the semichem.co.uk website….
I contacted Rimmel and it’s definitely been discontinued. Has anyone found anything that’s similar yet and doesn’t cost the earth?!
