Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation – 010 Ivory
I was first attracted to this foundation because of the huge advertising campaign that surrounded its release, you must have seen it, it had the golf ball being covered in foundation demonstrating its ability to give you ‘pore less looking perfection’. It was advertised as a liquid foundation that would give you an ‘air brush finish’, something that is most commonly associated with mousse foundations. It retails at around £7, however I got mine from Boots a few weeks after its release for an offer price of £5. The Dream Satin Liquid foundation comes in a 30ml glass bottle with a pump top, which means that the bottle can be easily recycled as can the cap. This foundation is unusually only available in 8 shades, with the lightest being 010 Ivory. I don’t have particularly fair skin and normally go for beige and neutral shades, but this was surprisingly the shade that matched my skin tone best. This would present a problem for those girls who have very light skin as the Ivory shade would be too dark for them.
The label on the front of the bottle states ‘Air-Whipped Foundation Air-Brush Finish’ and the back suggests that this is a make-up ’sensation that gives an ‘amazing air brush finish with its amazing air-whipped formula’. At first I was shocked by the fact that this ‘air whipped foundation’ was a liquid, a very runny/watery one at that, instead of a mousse. I found that it was easier to apply this product with my fingers as a brush makes it go a bit streaky and a sponge ends up absorbing a lot of it due to it being so runny. The foundation provided good coverage and to some extent did give me an air brushed complexion, from a distance.
I suffer from really dark circles under my eyes and they were still semi noticeable when this product was used on its own without concealer. It also came off quite easily even when a setting powder was applied. As for Maybelline’s claims that this foundation offers a ‘pore less looking complexion’, I am not convinced as quite a few of my pores were still visible. I have quite dry skin and it felt moisturised all day, when other foundations I have tried have totally dried it out. This is probably due to the inclusion of water and glycerine to the formula. However this would mean that girls who suffer with oily skin may have a bit of a problem with this product. Over all though I quite liked the product, it didn’t make me look orange and my skin felt lovely and as I said from a distance it did make me look air brushed.
I would recommend this product for people with dry skin as it does not dry you out like other foundations do. It would also be good for people who do not have a lot of blemishes on their skin but still want an even finish. If you can get it on offer for £5 it’s quite cheap and worth a go. You could even get a tester from ebay (see link below), before you commit to buying a bottle.
Cons: It only comes in 8 shades the lightest of which was suited to a normal/average beige skin tone so very fair people would not find a shade that suited them. It comes off easily, so would not be too good for wedding makeup as it will be all over the people you have to hug and kiss that day and you’re white dress! It also is not recommended for people with oily skin and can look a bit shiny on people with a normal complexion. It does not feel air whipped and does not offer the pore less look that it advertised so much. Oh and it smells like toast!
