Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara – Black (Waterproof)

maybelline-define-a-lash-mascaraOk so I will admit that I was first attracted to this product because it was pink and I am a total sucker for pink things, but also I am a fan of Maybelline products so I know that generally I will always get good results from them. I paid £7.99 for this from Superdrug, however prices vary depending on where you go – the cheapest being Ebay (see links below). Maybelline claims that “this lightweight formula coats lashes cleanly. Unique built-in clump remover leaves zero clumps on brush for zero clumps on lashes. The formula sculpts & plumps the lash look for perfect fullness.” This mascara was very easy to use and there were no clumps on my brush or eye lashes. It definitely gave my lashes some extra length and a nice fan effect, that doesn’t really show in the picture but was visible in real life. I wouldn’t say that the product “plumps the lashes for perfect fullness”, like Maybelline claims, if anything it made them look a bit sparse. The mascara lasted for a whole day before it little specks started to come off. Unlike some other Maybelline mascaras that I have tried, this one didn’t have a funny smell – definitely a good thing! Being waterproof it took quite a while to get off with my eye makeup remover and even though I thought that I had done a good job in removing it all I still woke up with panda eyes! The brush itself isn’t like most other mascara brushes, instead of bristles, this one has plastic spikes which do the job but hurt like hell if u jab yourself in the eye with them! Not that I do this intentionally, but I would say at least once a week I end up jabbing myself in the eye by accident and I can confirm that the bristle brushes hurt less than the plastic spikes! I went through a phase of using waterproof mascara just because I thought that it stayed on better, however I later heard that you shouldn’t use waterproof mascara unless it was totally necessary as it can result in damage to your lashes. I don’t know how true these claims are, but I wasn’t going to risk it and now only use waterproof mascara if I am going swimming.

I would recommend this product for anyone sick of having clumpy eye lashes. It would be good for anyone wanting a nice natural makeup look or for bridal makeup as it definitely will not come off if you cry! I would also recommend buying it cheaper on ebay – see box below, in case you really don’t like it, although I can’t see why you wouldn’t.

Pros: Lasts a long time, reduces clumping, gives a nice fan effect and a good dark colour.

Cons: Does not plump your lashes as it claims and the brush really hurts if you jab yourself in the eye with it!
