Dove Heat Defence Therapy – Protect and Shine Mist.
I only ended up buying this product as I couldn’t find the usual heat defence spray I use (TRESemme), in the supermarket. This product comes in a 150ml, orange, plastic bottle with a spray action pump and cost £2.99. I must admit that I never knew dove did a heat defence spray but it was the only one I could see on the shelves so I thought I would give it a go. The back of the bottle states that “the lightweight heat activated mist defends the internal structure of your hair from the drying and damaging effects caused by the heat of blow-driers, straighteners and curling irons. Leaving hair feeling conditioned, soft and shiny”. The directions suggest that before blow drying you should spray thick sections of your hair once with the product. Before straightening it is suggested that you spray thick sections of your hair twice with the spray, whilst adapting quantity with hair length. This would be where my first problem would arise; my hair is quite long and thick so by the time I am finished covering my hair in this I would have hardly any spray left! Anyhoo, I towel dried my hair and liberally sprayed on the heat defence mist. The spray action pump insured that there was an even coverage and it was very easy to use. The product doesn’t smell very nice and at first I my hair felt rather sticky, however something amazing happened! When I blow dried my hair, which normally goes very curly, frizzy and nasty, it went almost totally straight, to the extent that I wondered if I would have to bother straightening it at all! Once I had dried it, the sticky feeling had totally gone and it felt quite silky smooth. I only straightened it a little bit and found that it looked straight enough to get away with for the day, see pic but please ignore my really bad split ends (am getting them all chopped off soon!) 9 hours later my hair still looked straight and felt better than it does with the usual TRESemme spray I use. Despite the fact that I get through the spray very quickly, I would definitely buy this spray again; I am totally amazed by the effect I got from just one application and due to it going straight whilst blow drying it means that I have to spend less time damaging it with hair straighteners. A truly awesome product!

Pros: Makes your hair straighter quicker, leaves hair feeling silky smooth and conditioned.
Cons: If you have long hair it isn’t very cost effective and it doesn’t smell very nice.
